I was awarded a month long residency in New Mexico in 2016. My love of this country goes back to deep family roots. My father was born in a wooden shack in the wilds outside of Roswell to a family of 10 children. He was the only one to leave the rural life to become a professor, move to California and started his family. His relatives disowned him for starting a new life. Thus, I have a great feeling of connection for this land. My paintings made on the edge of Elephant Butte Lake express appreciation, love and mystery of my heritage.
